What changed
Two new settings let you turn on email opt-ins, SMS opt-ins, or both on the Membership Agreement.
Each channel has its own checkbox and consent text. Customers opt in to each one separately. There is no "agree to all" option.
Opt-ins work whether or not the Loyalty Opt-In toggle is on for your Membership Agreement.
When either opt-in is on, it replaces the general "Occasionally send me discounts, promotions, and new strain information" checkbox.
The old loyalty consent checkbox ("I consent to opt-in to ... loyalty program and receive a one time SMS...") has been removed from the Membership Agreement.
Prerequisites
Treez Loyalty must be your store's loyalty provider.
You need access to the Config Page to turn on the settings.
Turning on Membership Agreement opt-ins
1. Go to Config Page → Integrations → Loyalty Integration.
2. Make sure Treez Loyalty is selected as your loyalty provider. The opt-in settings only appear for Treez Loyalty.
3. Turn on one or both of the following:
Membership Agreement Email Opt-In: Shows an email marketing opt-in on the Membership Agreement.
Membership Agreement SMS Opt-In: Shows an SMS marketing opt-in on the Membership Agreement.
4. Click Save.
Both settings are off by default. Only the channels you turn on will appear on the Membership Agreement. For example, if you only turn on email, customers will only see the email checkbox.
What customers see
After signing the Membership Agreement, the customer goes to the section where they enter their phone number and email. Each channel you turned on appears with its own checkbox and consent text:
Email (checked by default): "I agree to receive promotional emails, product updates, and special offers."
SMS (unchecked by default): "I agree to receive recurring automated promotional messages from
{business_name}. Consent is not a condition of purchase. Message & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to cancel."
{business_name} is replaced with your store's Business Name, found under Config Page → Basic Configurations → Basic Dispensary Info → Business Name. Make sure this is set to the name your customers know you by.
The SMS checkbox is unchecked by default because marketing texts require the customer to actively give consent. A pre-checked box doesn't count. Customers must check it themselves to opt in.
Required contact info
If the customer opts in to email, an email address is required before they can submit.
If the customer opts in to SMS, a phone number is required before they can submit.
If the customer doesn't opt in to either channel, phone number and email are only required if your existing Membership Agreement settings require them.
If Optout Bypasses Required Fields? is turned on (Config Page → Customer Management → Membership Agreement Fields), a customer who leaves both opt-in checkboxes unchecked can submit without a phone number or email, even if those fields are normally required.
What happens when the customer clicks Done
Treez Loyalty only updates the channels you've turned on:
Setting on, checkbox checked: The customer is opted in to that channel.
Setting on, checkbox unchecked: The customer is opted out of that channel, including if they opted in before. Leaving the box unchecked means they don't want that type of message.
Setting off: Nothing changes for that channel. The customer's existing preference in Treez Loyalty stays as it is.
How the customer's Treez Loyalty account is handled:
Customer already in Treez Loyalty: Their opt-in choices are updated on their existing Treez Loyalty account.
Customer not yet in Treez Loyalty: If they opt in to at least one channel, they're enrolled in Treez Loyalty and their opt-in choices are saved. If they decline every channel, they're only enrolled if the Loyalty Opt-In toggle is on (Config Page → Customer Management → Membership Agreement Fields).
The customer's general marketing preference in Treez is also updated automatically. If they opt in to any channel, they're marked as opted in to promotions. If they decline every channel, they're marked as opted out.
Recommendations
Ask returning customers to review the checkboxes before clicking Done. The email checkbox is always checked when the agreement opens, even if the customer declined email marketing before. If they leave it checked, they'll be opted in to email again.
Turn on both channels if you plan to run email and SMS campaigns through Treez Loyalty, so you can collect consent for both at sign-up.
Things to know
These settings are only available when Treez Loyalty is your loyalty provider.
Turning off a channel's setting hides its checkbox on the Membership Agreement. It does not opt out customers who already opted in to that channel.
The Membership Agreement Email Opt-In and Membership Agreement SMS Opt-In settings work independently of the Loyalty Opt-In toggle. You can collect opt-ins with or without the Loyalty Opt-In toggle turned on.
The Loyalty Opt-In toggle controls whether or not the Membership Agreement is required for a customer to enroll in integrated loyalty.
When neither opt-in setting is on, the Membership Agreement works as it did before. The "Occasionally send me discounts, promotions, and new strain information" checkbox shows and controls the customer's marketing preference.
Customers who opt in to SMS can reply STOP to any text to opt out.
