External Transfers in METRC represent transfers received from vendors who have not yet migrated to METRC or otherwise sent you a shipment without using METRC. This is a common occurrence during a market transition to METRC from another Track & Trace Provider. This transfer type is typically only available for a very limited amount of time to onboard existing inventory that originated outside of the METRC closed loop system. Once a market has finalized its transition to METRC, this transfer type will become unavailable.

Creating an External Transfer

Licensees' who receive a shipment from a a vendor that originated outside of METRC, such as through BioTrack, will need to create an External Transfer so that the inventory can be entered into METRC and later imported into Treez.

NOTE: If licensees' receive a BioTrack Transfer prior to your migration to METRC, you can receive that transfer into Treez as normal and the inventory will be created in METRC on the night of your migration by Treez using an External Transfer.

If licensees' receive a BioTrack transfer AFTER your migration to METRC, you will need to create the External Transfer in METRC and them import it into Treez through the METRC enabled Purchasing flow.

To create an External Transfer in METRC, follow these steps:
