Overview
SellTreez offers new flexible rounding options to help you manage cash transactions smoothly. In addition to rounding down, you can now choose to round up to the nearest nickel or round to the nearest nickel using a balanced (bankers) approach—either automatically at checkout or manually when your cashier selects it.
How to Access Round Up Settings
Available in ST v69.6.0 and later
Log in to SellTreez
Navigate to the Configuration menu
Select Config Page
Click on Point of Sale
Navigate to Rounding Configuration
⚠️ Before You Begin
Round Up is implemented as a non-inventory fee line item. Before enabling this feature, review your local tax and compliance requirements to determine whether the Round Up fee should be configured as taxable or non-taxable.
By default, the Round Up fee is non-taxable.
If marked taxable, the Round Up amount increases the taxable subtotal and recalculates tax.
If marked non-taxable, it adjusts the final total, with no impact on taxes.
Round Down remains a discount and is not affected by this update.
Rounding Configuration Options
Under Rounding Configuration, you will see the following settings:
Rounding Mode
You can only select one at a time:
Disabled
No rounding applied to transactions
Transactions display exact totals, including pennies
Auto
Automatically applies rounding when the cashier selects checkout
Best for: High-volume locations where speed is essential
Manual
Displays a rounding button at checkout that cashiers can click manually
Gives cashiers control over when to apply rounding
Best for: Locations that want flexibility (e.g., round only on cash transactions or only upon customer request).

Always Round Up*
Rounding to the Nearest (Bankers)*
Rounding Denomination

Dollar
*If Rounding Direction = Always Round Up or Rounding to the Nearest (Bankers), the denomination is locked to Nickel only.
Currently, Round Up and Rounding to the Nearest (Bankers) support nickels only. Support for additional denominations—similar to Round Down—may be introduced in a future release.
How Round Up Works
Round Up increases the transaction total to the next nickel and is applied as a non-inventory fee line item called: Round Up Fee
This fee:
Can be configured as taxable or non-taxable
Works in both pre-tax and post-tax configurations
Is included in the transaction totals as a separate fee
Is refundable
Is included in sales reporting and exports
Can only be added once per ticket
Will be automatically removed if the cashier navigates away from the payment screen after applying rounding and returns to the cart without completing the sale
What Is Rounding to the Nearest (Bankers)?
Rounding to the Nearest (Bankers) rounds the transaction total to the closest nickel.
Instead of always rounding up or down, the system:
Identifies the nearest lower nickel
Identifies the nearest higher nickel
Determines which amount is closer
If exactly halfway between two nickels, apply “round half to even”.
This method creates the most statistically balanced outcome over time.
Examples
Original Total | Result | Direction |
26.521 | 26.50 | Down |
26.523 | 26.55 | Up |
26.525 | 26.50 | Down (even) |
26.575 | 26.60 | Up (even) |
After the direction is determined:
If rounding down → Applied as a discount
If rounding up → Applied as a fee
This rounding configuration determines direction only. The discount and fee behaviors remain unchanged.
Configuring the Round Up Fee as Taxable
By default, the system-generated Round Up fee is created as non-taxable. If your local regulations require rounding fees to be taxed, you can update this in your Tax Configuration settings.
To update the tax setting:
Navigate to the Configuration menu
Select Config Page
Click on Taxes
Select Point of Sale Tax Setup
Click Edit and proceed to the Medical or Adult Use tab
Locate the appropriate tax label row to update and select the Applies to Products dropdown.
Select the checkbox for Round Up Fee under Non-Cannabis to make it taxable
Unselect the checkbox to make it non-taxable
Repeat as needed for other tax labels or the Medical or Adult Use tabs
Save your changes
Once updated:
If taxable → The Round Up fee increases the taxable subtotal and recalculates tax.
If non-taxable → The fee only adjusts the final transaction total.
If you are unsure how rounding fees should be treated in your jurisdiction, consult your tax advisor or local tax authority before enabling this feature.
