Overview

SellTreez offers flexible round-down options to help you manage cash transactions smoothly. You can choose to round down to the nearest nickel, dime, quarter, or dollar—either automatically at checkout or manually when your cashier selects it.

This feature simplifies cash handling, speeds up checkout, and ensures your cash drawer reconciliation is easier at the end of each shift.

How to Access Round-Down Settings

  1. Log in to SellTreez

  2. Navigate to Configuration Menu

  3. Select Config Page

  4. Click on Point of Sale

  5. Scroll to the Round Down section

Configuring Your Round-Down Method

SellTreez offers two round-down methods. You can select only one at a time:

Round Down Method Options

Auto Round Down Transaction

  • Automatically applies rounding when the cashier selects checkout

  • No additional button click required

  • Best for: High-volume locations where speed is essential

Show Round Down Button

  • Displays a round-down button at checkout that cashiers can click manually

  • Gives cashiers control over when to apply rounding

  • Best for: Locations that want flexibility (e.g., round down only on cash transactions or only upon customer request).

Disabled

  • No rounding applied to transactions

  • Transactions display exact totals including pennies

Selecting Your Round-Down Denomination

Once you've chosen your round-down method, select which denomination you want to round down to:

Available Denominations

  • Nickel ($0.05) - Round down to the nearest 5 cents

  • Dime ($0.10) - Round down to the nearest 10 cents

  • Quarter ($0.25) - Round down to the nearest 25 cents

  • Dollar ($1.00) - Round down to the nearest dollar

How Round-Down Works

For Transactions Over $1.00

Round-down applies the selected denomination to the final transaction total. For example:

  • Transaction total: $15.47

  • Nickel round-down: $15.45

  • Dime round-down: $15.40

  • Quarter round-down: $15.25

  • Dollar round-down: $15.00

For Transactions Under $1.00

To prevent $0 totals while eliminating pennies, special rules apply:

Transaction Total

Behavior

$0.05 or less

No rounding applied. Total remains unchanged.

$0.06 - $0.10

Rounds down to $0.05 (regardless of your denomination setting)

$0.11 - $0.24

Rounds down to nearest $0.05, unless dime is selected (then $0.10)

$0.25 - $0.99

Rounds down to selected denomination, unless dollar is selected (then rounds to nearest nickel)

When Round-Down Doesn't Apply

Round-down will not be applied when:

  • The transaction total is $0.05 or less

  • The transaction total already matches the selected rounding denomination (e.g., $10.25 with quarter rounding selected)

  • The cashier navigates away from the payment screen back to the cart (the discount is automatically removed)

Where Round-Down Appears

When round-down is applied, it will be reflected in:

  • The POS checkout screen

  • Customer receipts

  • Ticket API responses

  • Sales reporting

  • The Sales Discount Report (logged as "Round Down")

Important Notes

  • Round-down works with both pre-tax and post-tax configurations.

  • The round-down amount is applied as a discount to the transaction.

  • Round-down is not configured in your discounts module.

  • Navigating back to the cart from the payment screen after applying round-down will automatically remove the round-down discount.

  • Round-down never reduces item prices below the minimum product price (if enabled).

  • Round-down does not require a manager pin.
